We’re proud to be the only independent cloud backup and recovery review website. We’re dedicated to robustly testing cloud backup and recovery solutions to help you protect your business data.
Our experienced technical team have conducted hundreds of hours of hands-on testing of the most used cloud backup and recovery solutions on the market.
We’ve built our own transparent matrix to score these solutions. This is based on the most important attributes for cloud backup and recovery solutions: reliability, security, performance, and operational efficiency.
BackupVerdict is an Expert Insights brand. Expert Insights is the leading cybersecurity research and review platform for enterprise: where security meets scrutiny.
Our Testing
We conduct in-depth product testing of cloud backup and recovery solutions for SaaS services like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce and more. We’ve reviewed 50+ products and written 25+ lists, as well as dozens of guides.
We have created a transparent methodology for reviewing backup and recovery solutions, catered to each platform (e.g. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace). This takes into account deployment experience, workload coverage, retention policies, restore capabilities, resilience under pressure, backup health monitoring, governance and security controls, and commercial considerations.
We put backup and recovery solutions through their paces. It’s critical for your business that you pick a trusted solution – but it’s also only fair to the vendors who have built these tools that we accurately represent them and their product features.

Mission Statement
BackupVerdict strives to help you make your enterprise data more secure. We provide unbiased, clear and helpful product reviews and analysis to help you make confident decisions when investing in cloud backup and recovery tools.
Why Cloud Backup & Recovery?
Having a strong cloud backup and recovery plan in place is essential for any business. There are many different scenarios that can put critical business data at risk. Cybersecurity threats – like ransomware. Insider action from employees, such as accidental file deletion, or malicious data destruction. Compliance regulations are also increasingly requiring robust data backup policies.
You may think that if you use a cloud-based platform like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace to store cloud files, emails and messages, you’re covered. These platforms are already in the cloud right? Unfortunately, SaaS vendors are not responsible for ensuring your data is recoverable in the event of a data loss incident. Microsoft, for example, is only responsible for ensuring the service is available – not that the data stored in its service is recoverable.
As businesses increasingly migrate to the cloud, it’s critically important to consider a cloud backup and recovery solution to protect your cloud data. However, finding the right solution can be a long and technical process. There are hundreds of cloud backup and recovery solutions on the market. Our goal is to help you find the right solution for your business.
BackupVerdict provides transparent, clear and qualitative backup and recovery reviews and recommendations, written by backup experts.
Our mission is to help you make your enterprise data more secure. We don’t rely on marketing brochures. We spin up dedicated testing tenants, processing over 30TB of data to see where these tools thrive and where they throttle.

Our Review Methodology: How We Stress-Test Every Solution
To provide truly independent advice, we have created a standardized, 100-point technical audit to analyze every backup provider. This framework is then adapted for each specific environment that may require cloud backup, for example Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
The category pillars are:
- Deployment – We assess setup experience, onboarding clarity, required permissions, and time to first successful backup.
- Coverage – We verify protection of core workloads (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive) and secondary services like Teams chats, Public Folders, and Entra ID.
- Retention – We test backup frequency, retention policies, versioning, and support for unlicensed, archived, or departed users.
- Recovery – We run timed full and granular restores, test cross-user recovery, and verify non-destructive restore options.
- Resilience – We evaluate bulk recovery capabilities, malware and ransomware scanning, immutable backups, and incident-readiness.
- Backup Health – We test the transparency of success/failure reporting, alerting, and the accuracy of health dashboards.
- Governance & Security – We audit activity logs, RBAC granularity, separation of duties, certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001), encryption, and data residency options.
- Commercials – We analyze licensing structures, pricing transparency, storage limits, and the quality of technical support by raising real tickets.
- Verdict – We provide an editorial synthesis including fit-for-purpose judgment, strengths vs peers, and trade-offs that don’t score neatly.
Why Our Scoring is Different:
Most review sites give 5 stars to everyone. We don’t. If a tool fails to back up Teams chats or lacks immutable storage out-of-the-box, we deduct points. If deployment takes 45 minutes and requires external documentation, we note it. If a restore fails after 8 hours, we report it.
How We Make Money
When we list a backup and recovery product in an article, we often include a link to the product website. We will sometimes be paid a referral fee from the vendor if you decide to purchase this service.
Some key points: we write our independent reviews and lists before we make money via referral programs. We do not allow vendors to pay for reviews. We do not allow vendors to pay to change their scores in our reviews. All of our feedback, whether positive or negative, will be published regardless of any commercial considerations.
